I just installed my S&K porches to my cresent supergourds and before I can do the caulking I would like someone on the forum to answer this one question? do I also have to put the porches on the inside as well!
would appreciate an answer
thanks Vic
Yes, if the porches help them get in, then they help them get out. I would put them both inside & outside. A bird may be trapped inside if he cannot learn quickly how to get out. Feeding the babies requires many, many trips, so I would want them to be able to get in & out very easily.
I have had super gourds up w/ cresent holes. This year I put porches on the inside and out. Now they are using the gourds this year. They did prefered the double metal compartments. I have a set with the porches mounted even with the bottom of the cresent and a set that are mounted about a 1/4 inch below. They used them both, not really seeing a problem with them trying to enter either. They say that flush with the opening makes it harder for starlings to get in. I did put caulking in the cracks to keep them from catching their feet. If you "don't " have a starling problem. You can move the porches down a little. I think it helps keep a little of the rain out. Good Luck!
