cresent supergourds porches

I just installed my S&K porches to my cresent supergourds and before I can do the caulking I would like someone on the forum to answer this one question? do I also have to put the porches on the inside as well!
would appreciate an answer :P

Yes, if the porches help them get in, then they help them get out. I would put them both inside & outside. A bird may be trapped inside if he cannot learn quickly how to get out. Feeding the babies requires many, many trips, so I would want them to be able to get in & out very easily.

I have had super gourds up w/ cresent holes. This year I put porches on the inside and out. Now they are using the gourds this year. They did prefered the double metal compartments. I have a set with the porches mounted even with the bottom of the cresent and a set that are mounted about a 1/4 inch below. They used them both, not really seeing a problem with them trying to enter either. They say that flush with the opening makes it harder for starlings to get in. I did put caulking in the cracks to keep them from catching their feet. If you "don't " have a starling problem. You can move the porches down a little. I think it helps keep a little of the rain out. Good Luck!
