Hello Purple Martin Enthusiasts,

I just rec'd my September 2005 electronic issue of the WBU newsletter. I found the newsletter giving us some "fun facts" about European Starlings and House Sparrows that you all may not know.

I realize most of us do know everything we want to about those two species of wild birds. Yes, how adaptive they are and how they thrive by killing young and stealing the nests of native song birds.

You can go to the following website to view this months issue and learn more.....................

Robert, thanks for sharing that.

The number of Starlings: Over 200,000,000 now from '0' back in 1890 and the number of EHS: 150,000,000 versus none 200 years ago is shocking and sickening at the same time. Although on one hand, as the article states, you can admire these species of birds for their survival behavior, it comes at the expense of our native bird population.

We need to be ever more vigilant in our landlording efforts to give our Martins, Woodpeckers and Bluebirds a fighting chance!!!!!
