Hello. I am part of a school project at my high school and me and some of my classmate's project is to Learn about purple martin housing , Build a house , and Try to get Purple Martins to live there. We have been looking around at this site and numerous others. If yall had any information that would be help it would be greatly appreciated. Some of the things we need to know is What attracts Purple Martins , What should the house have to suite their needs , What time we need to put it up and everything like that. If yall know of any sites that show how to built a Purple Martin house properly and stuff like that it would also be great appreciated. We have this class from 8:30 in the morning till 10:05 so we won't be able to answer any question yall may need to know. When we return tomorrow i will get back on here and check this post to answer yall's questions but we still have 15 mins of class today. Thanks for all the help and like i said if yall need any information from us we may need be able to get back to you till tomorrow morning. Thanks for everything.

For some good general information, go to the home page here and scroll down to the download information sheets. These contain just about all the basics to attract and manage a colony of purple martins.

Louisianna has some of the largest breeding populations of any region in the U.S. You may find this map interesting: http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/bbs/htm03/ ... r06110.htm . It's a government map of martin population trends, showing increasing birds in your state.

Your teacher on this project might like to read an article that was in the last issue of our magazine, Update. It profiles a high school in Texas that has managed a colony for some time. I don't think the story is online yet. Your teacher can call the PMCA here to get a copy, or if somebody wants to provide a school fax number, I'll fax someone a copy.

Good luck in your project.
