Does anyone here know if the Pontchartrain Causeway where the martins roost (hopefully migrated now) is still intact? I'm not optimistic based on aerial TV photos of one bridge in the area, but I was not sure what bridge I was looking at. The one I saw had the roadway pushed off the piers.
The whole situation there is so bad I'm limiting my news watching -- plan to work on gourd prepartion this weekend.

- Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.
Hi John. Keep your chin up - count your blessings - say a few prayers - send a few dollars - go volunteer to help with the refugees... whatever it takes to help chase the depression away. I'm having trouble with it, too.
As for the Pontchartrain Bridge - I'm not even sure which highway it's on. I looked at MapQuest and see there are three bridges that cross North to South. I also noticed there was a suspected roost seen by radar in the area from 2004. The roost is listed under Tammany Parish. So, I guess that's why I couldn't find it - I don't know that part of the world - at all...
Surprises me that of all the people I know must have seen that roost - nobody ever confirmed it in Project MartinRoost. We are nearing the end of the season - if you saw a roost please report it. They are also asking if you looked for a roost and did "not" find one to report that, too.

I found some satellite images of the hurricane damage. I'm not absolute, but I think above shows south end of the causeway -- intact. On the photo, the bridge is at the bottom right. The image is rotated one turn right.
There's a link to this and other government post storm satellite images at our local TV station's website. It's www.ksdk.com.

I've also seen pictures of that bridge that is missing pieces of the roadway. I'm pretty sure the newscaster at the time said it was Interstate 10, which runs East and West. I believe Pontchartrain Lake is to the North side of New Orleans. I can't say for sure about the bridge there, but I haven't heard any reference to it in the newscasts. CUL Lou
