Do you believe its the first of August and I have still got 4 babies yet to fledge.Oh they are getting close. Now I see 4 heads hanging out the hole looking for ma and pa.
As the days go on here as many as 50-100 show up in large numbers to stop and spend the day........kinda like they are waiting on these four so they can all move south.......and just a fact I have thousands of dragonflys here at my place.Yesterday as I mowed they were everywhere.flying in and out of anything they could squeeze between.I noticed this morning my pair took in 4 in about 3 minutes.so I am assuming hunting is still good here!!!!!!!!!!!

- Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.
Hey, Mr. Lodi!
You have enjoyed a nice long season. I checked back to see when you first reported those nestlings - that was July 8, 2005. So, they will be 28 days old on August 5th - this Friday. They could fledge earlier (maybe Wednesday) or they could fledge later. But, this is probably your last week with Purple Martins this season. Enjoy... it sure gets quiet once they have all moved on...
You've done a great job, Mr. Lodi. Best wishes for many more successful seasons, with each one better than the last.
Have you been to a roost, yet?
