A small group of PM's still show up at roost time. The numbers seem to be in reverse exponential numbers as the last few days of the season are upon my colony. It's been a fablious year with over 100 fledlings added to the PM society. The last birds are (I'm quite sure) the last several nests to fledge. I consider it a salute to my colony to have purple martins still hanging around this late in the season. I only hope that they all make it to south america and back again next spring, though the odds are stacked against them. They have truly been my "good friends" for at least this season. Hoping all landlords have had a great PM season.

- Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.
...and I salute you, too, Bob.
Great job! Best wishes for continued success and may you share many years with your friends, the Purple Martins.

Hey Bob
There's still a few fledglings coming in to roost in the house a Forest Park, St. Louis, as well. Most evenings I go over to wait for them at sunset to come in -- usually feeling slightly foolish -- and glad to know these birds have other people friends around the region.

I want spring to hurry back. I know, I know, but it doesn't hurt to wish.
