Every morning we have anywhere from 10 - 20 martins visiting our site. ARe they just passing by on their way south. They are not here in the evenings.

YES. WHAT YOU'RE SEEING IS BIRDS THAT ARE HEADED SOUTH.
I'M IN MALVERN, & MINE HAVE BEEN GONE 2-3 WEEKS,EXCEPT FOR VISITORS.

This is my first year to have martins houses. I put up four gourds, played dawnsong and did not get any for a long time. Then all of a sudden one day they were here. I had three sets. It is very exciting to watch them. I am going to add more houses next year and get me a pellet or BB gun to ward off the sparrows. (Although I did not have too much of a problem with them this year.)

I am looking forward to next year. And enjoying the visitors as they migrate south.

i bought this house last august. the lady got too old to clean out the houses she left. i cleaned them out & had 3 pairs nest this year. i am putting up a coates 8 room house next year, & i'll have 1, 12 room that she left.i have a nieghbor that has an established colony. i'm hoping between the visitors & returns next year i'll have a lot more. i guess i got lucky my first year, because those houses that were left were in really bad shape. i could only salvage the 1.

I didn't have martin nest this year either. The sparrows ran them off. However I'm getting hoards of about 25-30 every morning and whenever it clouds up during the day. They are all over my house and are covering much of the power line near my house. They are a beauty to watch. Almost all of them are subadults so they are brown not purple. I'm enjoying them while I can because I probably won't be living here next year.

I have more now than I did when they were nesting. This morning there were between 25 - 30. It was hard to count. I love listening to them sing. I am looking forward to next year. Maybe these that are visiting your house now will come back to your houses next year.
