We've got 4x of the SREH-equipped horizontal gourds, but HOSP can still get in. Since we don't have a clear line of sight for HOSP "plinking," we've decided the best thing is to trap the little nasties that are nesting in them currently.
Does anyone know of a trap that is designed for the Troyer Horizontal Gourd? Or would placing inside the gourd one of the "Universal Sparrow Traps" offered in the PMCA shop work?
Thanks!

I don't have any experience in putting a universal sparrow trap in a gourd. but I have quite a bit of experience trying to trap sparrows since I cannot shoot them. But I don't think the sparrows would go into a square trap in the roundish gourd. no reason for them to enter it, and I don't think you could line up the entrances to force them to enter.
the easiest thing is to tear out the nest and offer them a bluebird box. then put a pmca "insert trap for bluebird houses" in it once they start going into it.
if you don't want to do that, make the opening of the horizontal gourd smaller so only a sparrow can get in, and put a glue mouse trap in. messy, but works.
or....use one of the live traps that you bait with seed.

Or if you know anyone who hunts, perhaps they would have a blind you could borrow to get into a better place for "Plinking." Or possibly you could put your car/pick up in a place that would allow plinking from a door window. Be sure to LOWER the window though. (Don't laugh, there are folks who have forgotten.) CUL Lou

PMCA shop sells a natureline gourd with an insert trap that may work. If you have a sparrow entering the Troyer gourd, you could take it down, hang the trap at the same place, put some soft chicken feathers into the trap, and the sparrows probably could not resist that.
