Why do some landlords change out nests? What are the pros and cons of doing so.
I have had 2 out of 4 babies die in one supergourd, and 1 little one looks bad (eyes swollen shut) so I changed the nest. In fact I just removed a gourd that I knew wasn't being used, and made a nest of cedar chips & pine straw & replaced with babies. Did I do the right thing? Would like to hear comments.

The answers to questions 22 and 23 in "Martin FAQ" at the top of this page may help you, if you haven't read them already.
I think that any babies removed from a gourd for a nest change should be put back in one in the same location and orientation as before, because it's unlikely that their parents will find them and tend to them otherwise.

I'm not sure but I thought I read somewhere on here that PM's don't like cedar chips. Anyone else know about that? I know pine needles work great.
