Re-nesting a fledgling?
What can be done about a fledgling who is out of the nest too soon - cannot seem to get off the ground - how to feed it, and is it possible to re-nest it? Our housing is made up of six gourds. For certain, five (and possibly all) are occupied. I know that lowering the housing is not advisable because of the other fledglings which might leave "too soon" - and, we aren't sure from which gourd he left. Can feeding the "grounded" fledgling some dried mealworms help him at this point? I did that (just a few) yesterday, and he eagerly opened his mouth and ate. He has now been out of the nest for at least 24 hours. He is hanging out near the base of the housing pole. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! - R Gregory

I would definitely lower your gourds and put him in a nest with birds his size. I have had to do this twice this year and it has worked well.
