The Broussard area is chock full of Purple Martins… not only at my home but all over the local area and Parish. No matter where I go around the area I hear and see them everywhere… it just seems to be a lot
more here than normal.
I’ve got about 20 total coming into the gourds at evening alright now. Very fun to watch them swirling up in the sky late afternoon and then diving into the cavities around 7pm.
In my neighborhood there are other houses set up and there are quite a few martins populating those as well.
No nest making yet
Zero starlings/zero HS.
I have BBs making a nest behind my house.
I’m hoping this will be another good season.

Hey David. That is awesome. I have 2 houses filled with martins and little Bluebirds have a nest. She laid her first egg today. I am concerned because of so many house sparrows. I have 2 traps but not catching any. I’ve chased them from the martin houses and a couple of times from the Bluebird’s nest box. I hate those sparrows. Tom from Corpus Christi has been giving me good advice on trapping them but they are smart. I won’t give up. Also having problems with the Great Horn Owl who visits early morning before sunrise. Had to chase it several times. But, all in all, the martins are happy and the little Bluebirds (who get chased by the Mockingbird constantly) are happy too. Crazy here. I even have my neighbor looking out for the owl. What a fiasco. Never a dull moment. Good to hear your news! Good news!!

Great to hear! I know around here there are plenty of hawks… but I haven’t seen any swooping down on the rack. Of course,, I’m pretty sure it’s happening.. just not when I’m outside at the moment.brent wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2026 8:16 pmHey David. That is awesome.
