The house is up! My PMs didn’t arrive until early March last year. Other years, they were already here. Weather is warming up nicely in N. TX, so anxiously and patiently waiting and watching!
Starlings have spotted the house, but entrances are covered. Looking forward to another season with ya’ll!
Hope you are all well!!

Congratulations Lisa!!!! I too can feel your excitement.
In years past, when my husband and boys would drive up the driveway from work , I would run to them and just holler, doing the happy dance “hey, guess what” the Martins arrived home today!!”
They would look at each other and break out in a smile, so relieved realizing nothing was seriously wrong with me, lol.
As of February 24, 2026, I’m anxiously still awaiting.
Last year, the first scout was March 6, 2025.
I’m counting the days.
EVERYTHING on my calendar is blocked off from today through March 15, awaiting their homecoming, lol.
Lord Bless you Lisa!!!

So happy to hear from ya’ll! It’s a beautiful day, 82 degrees, but not a sign of a PM yet. I always get anxious as I review my records of years past and they were here weeks before now.
I had put up a bird feeder for the cardinals that dove, blue jays and others enjoy. BUT, so does a Cooper’s Hawk for easy pickings. Perhaps I should move or take down? I love my birds, but if it’s making my PMs pass me by, I will not hesitate to. Thoughts?
It’s almost the weekend and I’m planning on being outside, waiting, watching, oh, and firing up the grill, planting and listening to Jimmy Buffet and some Merle Haggard.
Please send some good MoJo my way for the glorious arrival! New tee shirt and everything! iykyk

Good morning LisaJ.
Not bragging, I promise. I feed EVERY species of bird, native and those migrating through the area.
I would venture to say, feeding these other feathered friends has no bearing whatsoever on PM’s.
I’ve never felt they were intimidated or threatened by any other bird except birds of prey and even then, they are here to raise their young and have Just as much right to stake their claim as the rest of them.
I read your previous PM history and feel very sure they are coming to your home that you have provided.
The more I read, the more I am learning that the arrival this year is later to some areas.
I will say again that last year in Sabine Parish, the first scout arrival was March 6, 2025.
Oh my goodness, my husband and I love outside and grilling.
Randy enjoys Merle Haggard a lot.
I admire you so much having a grandchild in your home. Lord bless you!!!

You’re welcome Lisa!!! Hope that sheds some light on your question about feeding other feathered friends.
Aren’t we blessed to be able to get our hands on those sweet “GRANDS” that quickly?
My only grandson lives the exact same distance, from me, lol.

Girl you got to be down and dirty with these illegals!!!
Today I moved a starling trap to another location in my yard. This contraption is spring loaded, if them son of a guns even half way stick their ugly head inside that gigantic hole they’re a goner.
I have to be honest though because all I caught and released last year was bluebirds. Talk about disappointed.
Lisa, I’m going to say this again to you, humbly as I know how. I have never ever seen or heard a HOSP on my place.
Can not figure it, but it’s the truth. European Starlings is another story though. I fight them!!
So very excited for your three pair!!!

Hello from far north east TX .. it seems the martins go around me east and west before they get here . but my first pair arrived march 4 ... now i have 4 asy males and the one asy female... had 3 visitors stop by for a day but left the next morning. it is amazing how much joy a few singing birds can bring just by stopping by and raising their young... hope you have a great year !
