For those interested 5% Carbaryl dust is available now. Looked at pestrong next generation chemical, (pricy!!!); think it popped up on Amazon as well. Gonna get one before this stuff is completely out.
Happy (almost) new year!

Thanks for the heads-up Tom. Never too soon to get ready and Carbaryl is a necessity.

Martin Colony History: 2019 - Sighting
2020 - Pair investigating
2021 - Got 2 eggs. HOSPs poked holes in them. Commence HOSP reduction
2022 - Off to a good start, tree swallows took over and Martins left
2023 - Off to a good start, Martin population dwindled and they eventually left
2024 - New standalone pole and gourd rack. 1 nest, 4 eggs, none hatched
2025 - 9 nests, 37 eggs, 23 hatched, 19 fledged!

I gave it a whirl on Amazon.

We’ll see if it ships or gets cancelled.

Thanks for the heads up!

I might have to get some but I do have a lot of left over Sevin with 5% Carbaryl. I used some last year and had no mite problems. Is there a way to test it to see if it’s still active and can be used? Anyone? Thanks, Brent

Taste test Brent. Put some on your tongue, if it burns its still good. Haha, dont do that.

Have any bugs around? Aphids on flowers?

When in doubt, replace-- remember Robs mite hell.

Wanted to share my experiment with you that I did this morning. In the container is Sevin with 5% Carbaryl that I had in my shed from January of 2025. Originally I bought it in 2021 and have a lot in the original container. Just out of curiosity I decided to see if it was still effective so I tried it on a fire ant's mound. I stirred them up and added a little of the Sevin so they could walk on it. Left it alone and came back about an hour later. Many dead ants. Just wanted to share my findings. Brent

That's great news! My Sevin and Carbaryl are stored inside (controlled humidity) in large ziplocs, so I'm thinking mine should be good from last year. Almost out of Sevin, so I will use the 5% carbaryl I bought last year again. Last year I mixed the two before dusting the housing and I didn't seem to have a mite problem.

Brent good test, I hate fire ants, didnt know it works on them. Glad its still good, think it remains active longer than we believe. But humidity affects it (dont know by what degree) and you and I both are in a humid environment. I got one too, well see if it ships.

Conrad, I did the same thing! About half and half.

Tom, did you order it from Amazon or Southern Ag? I’ll probably get some as back up.

LOL…I actually tried the Sevin with Carbaryl 5% that I bought in 2019 on another ant mound and it did indeed kill a few, not all but a few. Carbaryl doesn’t have much effect on ants is what I read so I’m surprised to see it kill some. I hate fire ants!!
