Hey, friends! I hope you all are loving life and enjoying our beautiful Purple Martins!
As of today, I am at full capacity, 8 apartments, 8 pairs, and nest building began this week.
Only had about 2 weeks of early morning Starlings, but now, I guess they see they’re outnumbered and this crazy person runs out to shoot them off! LOL
I have a local hawk (a small one) that I have run off a few times. My PMs chase it out of our area with help from other swallows, diving and screaming at him.
Now, nest checks are happening, waiting for eggs! Putting down Sevin Dust to get a jump on mites.
So far, all is well in Prosper, TX!
Oh, weird thing, I only say in a whisper: I have not seen a single HOSP! They normally are fighting to claim an apartment and nest building! Shhhh 😁

Don’t say HS 3 times, or like BeetleJuice, they show up! Haha. Sounds like you are off to a great year!!

All,
I am having a great season! 18 pair, all happy hatchlings , 46, and was very noisy today.
I’m outside with them daily, been watching feedings and the babies getting all their plumage.
I thought there must be a hawk bc so many birds were flying and making all kinds of noise.
Then, it hit me, I think some early flight school was happening!
This is the earliest over the last 8 years!
Am I losing it? The house is very quiet (5:00 pm) and I saw a damn HOSP trying to move in until I ran like a banshee to chase it off.
I’m in North Texas. We’ve had many severe storms. Can this happen?
CC and others, what are your thoughts?
Appreciate ya’ll

Lisa,
Sounds like a bang up season!!!!!! Congrats!!!!!

Difficult to say really, when the chicks crowd the entrances everyone is on high alert. Doesnt take much time set them off.

If its a fledge leaving, oh yes! They all take off after it screaming and calling its a big deal!

Did they come back ok?
