***Update to the update*** No sign of the martins for 2-3 days. We've had rain everyday though, so hopefully they will return. I was so excited to finally have them at my new location after 3 years of trying to attract them. I thought since they had been here for 4 days, they'd stay and nest here.


**Update** The male & female are still here 4 days later! . They are actively checking out one of the gourds, so hopefully they will decide to nest here this year.

I finally have an ASY male and a female looking at my setup after 3 years of trying. We had 56 pair at our old location that's just 4 miles away. I'm offering a variety of houses for them....Troyer vertical and horizontal, Chirpy nest, and an aluminum house with enlarged compartments. This is day 2 that I've seen them checking out the housing. Should I stop playing the dawn song for now?

Martin Colony History: Several colonies with in 6 mile radius.
Have had visitor every year 2014-24.
Two large trees removed in fall 2024 and moved T-14 to a more open location.
2025- 1 SY pair. Fledged 2.

First off, congrats! Sounds like you are a seasoned veteran. I have yet to attract successful pair, but I have had multiple visitors that never seemed to mind when the dawn song or daytime chatter cD was playing. I think I’d let it play. They will do better attracting other martins than the cd, but they do leave the housing for extended periods and the cd will stay on duty. So to speak.

2014, 1st year-a few lookers, no nests
2015-23. Visitors each year. But no pairs.
2024- most active year. 2-4 SY male’s hang out most days.
2025, 1 SY pair. 2 eggs, 2 fledged!! Other martins visited daily.
Still eliminating starlings and sparrows.
