Martin Colony History: 2010-2014 located in Slidell LA. Gourd rack with 16 gourds. Max of 2 pairs during this short period in Slidell. Plenty of fledglings.

2014-present.. moved to Broussard LA. Same Gourd Rack but added a 6 room house (modified from a 12 room)

2020: after a long drought of nothing, 4 pairs and 4 nests, 23 eggs total.
6 fledges.

2021: 9 pair, 47 eggs
36 hatchlings
30 fledged

2022: about 12 pairs.. many eggs, all fledged.. only had one hatchling die.. probably because of our schnauzer. :(

2023: 16 pairs. So far about 60 chicks with about a dozen eggs to go.

2024: 13 pair. About 60 eggs
2025: 14 pairs .. 69 eggs.

Can anyone send me the correct way to thread the rope through my two double pulleys on my gourd rack?

Last year I rethreaded the rope after doing some pulley maintenance and it doesnt seem right. It goes up and down ok, but when raising the rack, once the two pulley get real close together the one connected to the arms twists almost 45 degrees and the rope sort of starts getting misaligned and the pulley don’t roll smoothly. So I stop lifting when I see this begin to start, and tie the rope off. About 8” from max height ..

Before I redid the rope last year I could easily lift the rack all the way to the top.

Is there a good video or close up pics somewhere?

Thanks!

Thank you very much …if you could post a pic of the gourd rack at its top position so I can take a look at the winding of both of those pulleys. It would help me out a lot.

Facing your pole run your rope through the top left pulley (red arrow) bring it around and over the top and through your bottom left pulley (red arrow). Bring it behind your top right pulley and thread through the top (blue arrow) and bring it straight down and through your bottom right pulley (blue arrow). When it comes out the rope (yellow arrow) will be attached to the eye bolt. Of course if it is already attached to your eye bolt work it in reverse. Hope this helps.

Thanks flyin… makes for easy nest checks.. the guard rides up and down with the rack, so I don’t have to remove it when lowering ..
