Martin Colony History: It took me 11 years to get martins. It finally happened in 2010! Been going strong, ever since! I have a 12-gourd rack, full and overflowing!! I love this hobby!

Can someone please share links to the best weather radar websites (and any specific web page settings I should use) to see roost rings that indicate possible morning dispersal of Purple Martins from a pre-migratory roost?

And could you tell me what time of morning is the best time (in Eastern Daylight Time) to see those roosts/roost rings on radar for the East Coast states in mid-July?

Thanks!

Plymouth State University provides a radar site at the link below.

https://vortex.plymouth.edu/myowxp/rad/nids.html

Modify the following settings on that page for the best view of Concord:

Radar Site - scroll down the list to SC and choose Greenville/Spartanburg, SC (GSP)
Day - 17 for today or earlier days in the month
Hour - 10
Minute - 30
Output Type - 25-Frame GIF Loop
Center - GSP
Zoom - Zoom by 50%

Then click on the button "Click here to view map"

The PMCA provided some roost hunter radar training at the link below. I have not taken the course yet but it is probably better than Plymouth State University.

Thank you very much for all this information you have posted. I'm having trouble getting the radar to show up, but perhaps it's my old computer, or maybe I'm doing something wrong. But I'll keep trying! Thanks again for your time and expertise in sending the links and writing up the instructions.

I posted a different method for finding the rings on my site:

There's also a youtube walkthrough with terrible sound quality.

mbey, thanks for your post and the link; I enjoyed reading your website story about the Austin roost and finding it after it relocated. Your Birdnado! video is great! Thanks for the article, information, and videos.
