I was checking the three towers I take care of today and found one gourd with a clutch of 11 eggs in it. Has anyone else seen this? What's the best explanation for so many eggs -- can it possibly be one bird? And if so, what are the prospects for the young if all 11 hatch?

The nest is at Beltzville State Park near Lehighton, Pennsylvania.

I recently had a clutch of 10. I have no idea if the eggs were from one bird or more. The eggs did not hatch and the next check there were four more eggs on top of the ten! When they did hatch it was four young. Apparently the original eggs were not viable . I’m with you though. I’d like to know where the original ten came from.

Yes, last year had 12 in one clutch. First it was 6, then a pause between eggs and next nest check, another 6. Of those 3 hatched.
First clutch weren't viable, she could only incubate a few.
