Today, Wednesday April 26, 2023, ushered in my 20th year of hosting Purple Martins in Larimore, ND.

At 3:02 p.m. I heard the distinct Purple Martin chattering and calls that scream "We are back!"

It's cold, 45°, with heavy cloud cover, rain, some snow still on the ground, and 17 mph winds, but my Purple Martin season has begun with six big, healthy males. They seem to always arrive in the worst weather of the spring.

I was debating the pros and cons of blocking some of the gourds’ entrances when the rain began. I'm so glad I didn't do that.

We'll get the remaining six gourds hung tomorrow. We offer 16 Super- and Troyer Gourds.

I tried to enter my arrivals on the PMCA arrivals map - but it would not let me.

Congratulations on 20 years of hosting martins!! The first martin arrived at my site in northern SD on April 12...up to 30 now. I hope the ice melts on the bigger lakes soon. It's been a cool late-arriving spring in this area, but the martins show up on their set spring schedule regardless what the weather is doing.

I believe to enter your scout arrival data you need to sign into the PMCA account with a different user name than the one you use to access the PMCA forum...at least I have to use a different user name to access that section of their website. You can contact PMCA if you are having trouble entering your scout arrival data and they should be able to get things resolved for you.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, Randy. I called the PMCA; they got the little glitch fixed!
