new rack installation under way

got my ground stake in yesterday. the 2" stake is 57" long. i welded on an extension to make it 84" so i could get 4' into the ground and 3' of engagement into the pole. it will probably make lifting the pole off a little more difficult, but i can use a step ladder if needed. in a few days i will fit everything and give it a test run to see how well i positioned it.

.. defed ... Sounds like you are on your way for next year.. The 2" is a good selection pole. Getting it deeper in the ground never hurts.. I put mine at 36 inched in the ground, I just couldn't dig any deeper with my post hole digger. Any why it seems solid enough .. Just be careful lifting it up onto the ground stake, wear good gripping gloves.. Good Luck.

i could only get 3' w/ the digger as well, but i drove it in another foot. still only 3' of concrete, but i figure that little bit extra can't hurt. if i let the carriage all the way down, it shouldn't be bad to lift and worst case, i remove the guard and rope cleat, let the carriage sit on the ground and lift the pole out of it to reduce the weight even more.

been working on getting a camera mounted too, so we'll see how that goes.

The camera will be a nice addition to the set up. Are you going black/white or color for the camera ?

using a blink. so color w/ night vision. it would be real easy to add it using an S&K access port as an extension using the blink w/ just internal batteries, but i want to wire it to a solar panel so it will have a cord and i don't want to 'screw' it on and twist up the cord. i want the cap and adapter to screw onto the gourd and then the part holding the camera slip over it straight on w/o screwing it. it's been a little bit of a challenge, but i have something now that will work but have another idea i may explore and see which one is better.

got most everything out for a test run today. pole went on easy, even w/ the taller ground stake. only put 1/2 the gourds on. the orientation was a little off....i wanted the one facing the house (on the bottom level so not in the pics) to be aimed straight at my window, but it's off by a cpl degrees. not that easy to judge alignment based on a 2" square. LOL

one modification i plan on doing is making an adapter so the rope cleat is vertical rather than horizontal. as is, it needs to be put on backwards for the guard to fit, and then it still touches the guard and keeps if from wobbling in 1 direction. rotating the cleat should solve both issues.

thanks....and 'almost ready'. still going to make a cpl modifications, got a piece of aluminum cut so i can flip my rope cleat vertical, and still working on the camera mount. and still have to make repairs to the old pole.

Sorry for the late reply, looks great! Beauty of the system is a slight modification to the hub and you can add 6 more. Almost a shame to take it down isn't it?
When its time to put it up, liberally grease the ground stake. Less wear and tear and makes it easier to remove.

i don't think i will add more than 12 to the 2" pole, which is why i opted for it over the 3". i feel like it will take too long to check more than that.

i will have 20 next year, and if it goes well, i will get another 12 unit and either add it or replace the wood one, depending on how it's holding up. i got the bad plywood changed out this wkend.
