Martin Colony History: 2021: lots of visitors, no takers. 74 starlings eliminated.
2022: visitors, no takers. 139 starlings and 1 HOSP eliminated.
2023: Subadult male showed a lot of interest. Tried to attract a mate from the end of May to the beginning of July. He’d go out daily and bring martins back to no avail, one time bringing back 8 other martins squaking and showing off his gourd. 61 starlings and 6 house sparrows eliminated.
2024: visitors, no takers. 82 starlings and 3 HOSP eliminated.
2025: Repeat of 2023 SY male tried hard for a couple months, no luck. 69 starlings and 7 HOSP eliminated.

ASY male showed up and went in the housing for the night. This is my second year trying to get martins and I assume this guy is passing through, he’s early. I posted a report but it has not showed up on the map yet, not sure if there is a buffering time or if I made a mistake.

Nice! I hope he’s one of a pair that’s going to stay. They’re already all the way up there. Wow. Good luck and the best to you. Brent

If he doesn't stay that would be a positive sign he felt comfortable to spend the night. Might be your colony starter as well. Keep us posted.

Your Martin probably will stay there until it warms up. You need to get some crickets and scramble some eggs and put them on the ledges of the gourd he's going into or on the housing. If not you will not survive in this cold weather. I will put food out about three times a day. Where are you in Western New York?

Fillmore NY. Hopefully the report will appear on the map sometime soon. Supposed to be 40’s in the day and teens at night here.

I hope you're feeding that bird because he won't survive very long
