The Supergourds for my new set up just showed up. All the gourds have a line labeled “fill line”. I don’t see any information other than a bit that came up on Google saying I might want to pre load it with nesting material. Don’t the birds take care of that? They certainly did with the gourds on my old set up, although they were quite a bit smaller. Any input?

Also, looks like the entrance holes need a bit of clean up where they were punched out. I assume this is normal.

Thanks

Hi Homer! Good gourds! Have a few and happy with them. Yeah, sometimes they come with rough edges, can be smoothed out quick. Make sure there are not any burrs, so use something to make it real smooth.

As far as pre nesting, its up to you. Iv always prenested. Consider the size of your super gourd vs the old ones. Also look at this post from Steve: K.:

Wish you all the best of luck sir.

Martin Colony History: Martin landlord since 2016. 48 super gourds all with crescent openings and porches.

Good choice on the gourds. I think you will really like your super guards. I love mine. I have 48 and I use wheat straw and I fill them up just under the inside porches. Nothing exact on this or about 2 fists full. Once the martins start using it the straw or what ever your using will settle down. Good luck with them.

Thanks guys. Weather finally improved here, so I was able to get the ground post sunk in concrete today. They should be here in about three weeks…
