Martin Colony History: 2010-2014 located in Slidell LA. Gourd rack with 16 gourds. Max of 2 pairs during this short period in Slidell. Plenty of fledglings.

2014-present.. moved to Broussard LA. Same Gourd Rack but added a 6 room house (modified from a 12 room)

2020: after a long drought of nothing, 4 pairs and 4 nests, 23 eggs total.
6 fledges.

2021: 9 pair, 47 eggs
36 hatchlings
30 fledged

2022: about 12 pairs.. many eggs, all fledged.. only had one hatchling die.. probably because of our schnauzer. :(

2023: 16 pairs. So far about 60 chicks with about a dozen eggs to go.

2024: 13 pair. About 60 eggs
2025: 14 pairs .. 69 eggs.

Awesome.. thanks for the good news

I'm talking to 3 every night here. The pair and a lone SY Male that makes it a trio. 18th day. Nest Check and hard to see in as Natural gourd is very dark inside...but they look good I suppose and the adults didn't freak out on me and my nephew in from CA I was teaching about these birds today when lowering rack. I love your enthusiasm and joy...its busting out from the post. I feel similar and having a blast!

Not at all! When I started I was driving everyone nuts with updates. Keep up the enthusiasm it catches on.
Congrats on your success.

Jones4381, iv found using a small flashlight to see in the natural gourds works great. Martins don't mind a bit.

Congrats. I'm a first-year as well, I didn't even want to be a landlord! I checked my nests over the weekend too out of pure curiosity (I can't even get inside the house I have, I have to look through the holes!) and have somewhere around 25-30 babies in 6 nests. One nest had at least 5, maybe 6 babies. The rest had 3-4. What I found most interesting is they are all different stages, some featherless and pink, some grey, some with fur. Will be interesting to see what they do next!
