Very excited, this is my 3rd year and 2nd year with Martin's!!

I had 3 pair last year that fledged 10 successful fledglings. I hope it works out again this year!!
I am in Sedalia Mo. I have a Great friend that lives down the road from me that has helped me so much, I owe it to him for my success so soon.

- Martin Colony History: In 2026, 88 pair with 333 fledged youngsters. 110 total cavities available, 82 Troyer Horizontal gourds and a homemade PVC / metal 28 compartment unit, 1 fallout shelter. The first few years of being a new landlord are critical. I'm sure you will be fine, but now is when you do everything to make their stay safe and healthy. You will be playing the numbers game in the years ahead. 10-15% of the babies will come back to your new colony each year. Best of luck my friend. Read up on as much info as possible on colony management for much success in the future.

I got the repeater trap running today, I saw 4 sparrows this morning, so hopefully that takes some heat off the Martins, there is also one less starling in the neighborhood
they can't get in the houses/gourds but they sure like to hang out like they can, luckily I have not seen another one since this morning. As you all know it is a constant challenge, but so worth it.

I have found the Martins do appreciate the involvement. When I am out there messing with the housing or just near by they will glide over and acknowledge me, at least I feel like they are appreciating it. I had mites last year on the babies so I swapped gourds with new nesting material and mite treatment and the mites were gone after the 3rd nest change. I really like how involved the Martins let you get with them in the process.
