Last year, when I posted that one of my martins had more of a blue tint to him than purple, nobody believed me.
Well, he came back this morning, and I took a few shots of him.
I'm glad it was April 2 instead of yesterday, or everybody would have thought it was an April Fool's joke.

For some reason, only one photo appeared, although I atttached three.
Maybe the other two will show up on here.

That's excellent. Thanks for the photos. He does look a little blue. As I look out at my ASY males on the gourds then look back at the photo, there is a noticeable difference.

BTW. I've had trouble posting multiple photos in one post. I always have to reply to my own post to add additional photos if they are required to support my position.

Hope you have a great season.

Thats interesting, handsome bird! glad he made the trip. I like being able to pick out the individual returnees, only been able to do that once...had a subby with a very horse voice, came back as SY and a stinking hawk got him
Enjoy!

That's cool! I hope he keeps coming back for years to come. I'm interested to know if he picks the same nesting cavity as last year. There's not many birds you can know that on as an absolute.

deancamp, blue boy is back again, and since you said you'd be interested in knowing if he went to the same cavity, he's using the same one he did the last few years.

Blue Boy is back again this year, and he's using the same compartment he and his mate take every year.

Like the nickname and your excitement is awesome...Call mine Zeus as he is later than most but the baddest of all the Martins in these parts upon arrival :P

Hey thats great!! He is distinct, glad he made it back home. Wonder if his chicks would carry the trait, guess someone somewhere will notice.

It’s great when you can identify a returning individual! Very nice that he came back. I had a female last season who’s chirp was more of a “squeak”.. she successfully mated and fledged 4. I wasn’t sure if something was wrong with her health and if she would make it back. But she has. I hear her unmistakeable “squeak”:when they’re all circling … good to know she’s healthy and made it back.
Good luck,

It is nice to have one with a unique look about him, since all of the other mature males look alike, so we can keep track of him. That was a good point about his descendants perhaps inheriting the blue tint, but so far, we haven't seen any like him.

Good to hear he made it back. Also thanks for the info on him choosing the same nest each year.
