Hi Everyone - been a while since I've been on the forum. Hope everyone is ready for another successful season for our Martins.
Need a bit of information please. Last year we had 26 pair which fledged approximately 83 youngsters. Would have been more but lost 11 to Buffalo Gnats. All gourdes are the extruder type. My question is that I heard somewhere that there is a product called Flyaway?? that you can apply around the entrance area to ward off the Gnats. Can anyone provide me with the products full name and where I might be able to purchase it. Also, how is it applied and how often. Appreciate any help - Thank you!

Last year I used Bronco Equine Horse Fly spray. I got it at the local farm supply store.
It seemed to help. I got idea from someone on this forum. I don't remember who recommended it but I think it saved several of my young ones.

I don't know about your Flyaway product but I do know of another product. Raid Max-home insect killer. I also deal with gnats and this product is great. It contains pyrethrin as the active ingredient. Pyrethrin kills bug on contact. I spray it on the outside of the house. It comes in an aresol can. You have to spray daily as it breaks down fast in the environment. If you come arcoss Permethrin, it is a synthetic form of this ingrediant and lasts much longer. Tried to attract PMs 2004; began more earnest attempt in 2014.
Current home site consisting of 2 modified Trio M12Ks, 4 ChirpyNests, and assorted artificial gourds, all enclosed in owl/hawk cages.
