Emil, Your Sideboards
I guess the objective with this is to come up with an entrance that is as much starling proof as is possible. The 3/4' was arrived at because Emil felt it was appropriate. 3/4" may be a bit arbitrary, but it may be that as depth of the arch is increased the opening vertical height may need to be increased a little to prevent the entrance from becoming martin proof. How well it works. I wonder if it would hurt anything to have made the crescent even deeper?

- Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas
It would work to have the entrance 1inch deep, but more than that may make it too difficult for the martins to enter. It is harder for a martin to enter a 3/4in thick entrance than a thin entrance, that is why I prefer the sideboards. Martins can enter the thin entrance with sideboards very easy.
