Hi Gun,
I hate to burst your bubble, but you may want to put your porches closer to the bottom of the entrance holes. I had to move mine up to keep the foxy starlings out. If you have them down to far they learn how to squat, wiggle and turn sideways to get in. If you put them almost at the bottom of the entrance hole their long legs keep them from getting in but the short legged Martins have no problem. The house is looking great!

Great job, that looks really nice
Martin landlord since 2003. Currently offering 162 plastic gourds with tunnels, all with Conley II entrances with the Lewis modification. I have 24 Supergourds and the rest are Troyer Horizontals.

The porches are close to 3/8” from bottom of hole. That’s the recommended height from Bob’s instructions. I have seen Martins dive right into the holes once used to their nest box. I notice those troyer entrances on ur cedar house look lower. I guess I could put a shim under the hole as the porches are too secure w my nailer. (Not going to tear them all apart)

I use the aluminum crescent plates from PMCA for my openings on several of my houses and don't believe I've had any problems with starlings. I use them on my North Stars. I place them on top of the porches. The plate has 1/2 inch space between the bottom and the crescent bottom, plenty of space to crawl in sideways yet I've not seen a starling do it. Some say starlings can be smaller in the south. I've seen smaller starlings here but they pay no attention to my colony or they try, can't get in and move on. Since I've gone to crescent, excluder, and conley 2 openings, I don't have problems.

I’ve cut the holes in the same shape and size of Bob’s SREH plates. Give or take a bit from my shaky cutting skills. Just saving a few $$ on construction. Never had a problem w starlings on our colony.

A pellet enema is a sure cure for those starlings that are persistent. Sorry, i just had to say it!

Star assembled. Perches aren’t as long as Bob recommends but it’s what I had left from last build.

24 natural gourds on a satellite rack,9 other gourds scattered around
2-12 compartment trio houses
Rarely see a sparrow or starling,but when I do they don’t last long!
Will have a second satellite rack for the 2022 season and phase out the houses,the martins here strongly prefer natural gourds.
Hey GUN, now you got that one done finished,would you mind starting in on one for me ,that’s a cool house man great job!.

The house rides up and down thru a hole in the middle. The star attaches to the top of the pole and acts as a stop besides a perch. It’s a 4x4 pole slotted at the top w a pin for a 3 1/4” pulley that the cable sits in. The cable attaches to the bottom of the house around the pulley and to a winch about waist high on the pole.
