I got my Mother's Martin house when she passed away. From my research on this site I have determined it is a Duracraft DH12. I am remodeling it to raise and lower on a Trio Castle pole. As I have it completely taken apart to redrill the center hole for the bigger pole I thought it would be a good idea to paint it. I am struggling to find a green spray paint to come close to matching the original color. Has anyone repainted a Trio or Duracraft and had luck closely matching the green color without a color match. I am hoping for a rattle can solution. Thanks for any and all help.

Wasnt too familiar with a duracraft, had to look it up ☺
Looks like a heath house? I wouldnt worry too much about matching the paint to an exact spec. Martins wont mind. Close is good enough, but you have to live with the looks!
Sounds like a complete re-do, why not paint the walls and roof white? Help to reflect the sun and keep things cooler.
While its all apart any plans on making the rooms bigger?
Tom

Yeah, it's me I'm worried about. The Martins would probably prefer it being old and dirty looking. I did drill a 3" hole in side walls to expand the compartments, bedrooms are all through the hole on the left. :) I would like to keep the exterior as close to original as possible.

2021......to be seen.
24 natural gourds on a satellite rack,9 other gourds scattered around
2-12 compartment trio houses
Rarely see a sparrow or starling, but when I do they don’t last long!
Will have a second satellite rack for the 2022 season and phase out the houses, the martins here strongly prefer natural gourds.

Hey there dean, kinda surreal you asking about the color on the house. Just last week I had the spray paint area in Lowe’s stunk up testing colors. They had a dark green that was too dark . The best I could do was plain green or John Deere green. I actually got the JD green. I finally had to kinda do what Tom said.....close enough was good enough. I have an old torn up trio I got just for a door or two,and taped off the green strip down the side and sprayed it,it looked pretty good! I was gonna quickly repaint an older one I have up and decided to just let it ride till after season and do it then so the smell of new paint could wear off till next season. Any way ,that was my choice. You may also check at a auto body paint place for some dupli-color for cars . Not sure though about the thinners in that type of paint . It may re act with the paint on your house and make it wrinkle up. Good luck with your venture. David

Dean, i think we all are the same. Martins are a day or two late, we stress. They show up and take off for a few days we stress. They balk at SREH we stress!
Davids got a good idea take a piece to lowes and drive the paint department nuts matching it.

I have trio houses and the paint I found that was close to the trio color was rustoleum hunter green spray paint.

Hey there Dave, I either missed the hunter green or they were out? But,I think I will check the other Lowe’s and see if they have that and spray a sample. The John Deere green is pretty darn green! Something a little toned down may be better.
Good luck with ur birds this season.

PMDavid, haha are you going to the other Lowes because they won't let you back in the paint department after smelling it up on your last outing. :). Daveh, the hunter green is on my short list. Thanks for the help guys.

Hello Dean:
I have an old Duracraft 12 compartment house that's been repainted 3 times now. I used Rustoleum Hunter Green (glossy) for the porches and Rustoleum Glossy White for the walls. I assume you have the snap on walls. Bought paint at Home Depot. Martins have thrived for the 9 seasons at this location with a full house the last 4 years despite my quick, sloppy paint touchups.

This will be the last year for this one as corrosion is methodically eating the aluminium away, particularly on the 3 apartment floors where I attached Troyer Horizontal gourds. Already added secondary metal and now acrylic floors to those compartments.

Good Luck! Bill Banks

Yes it has the snap in doors. I should have mentioned it is the castle style house. It originally had 3 floors, 18 compartments and I have converted to 9 compartments. I will also be adding porch dividers.

Yep dean that’d be a good idea. I did a light coat and fanned it dry then did a second coat on two different pieces! It wasn’t nothin nice down that isle! I’m gonna have a look at the hunter green and if if get some of these houses I see around I may go ahead and take em apart and start on that for next year . David

Hey guys, after much anguish and debate with
myself, I decided on a "green grass" color I found at Menards. It is a little bit lighter than the original color, but I felt it to be the closest I could get.

This is a comparison original vs green grass.
