Just for fun, we were wondering if anybody’s guessing, when Florida’s first return will be this year? We’re guessing the 29th.

Anthony! Too funny. I am in your corner but for their sake hope your off a month, hahahah.
Think of it like this: a bunch of your martins in Brazil have been fattening up and lounging around with parrots and howler monkeys. Then they start looking sideways at each other, thinking "what if HE gets to san antonio first!" Ill lose the good spot! They start to sneak away, others notice and the rush is on! Soon the rush will be on!

The waterfowl were sure milling around up here in Iowa on Christmas day with the 60 degree weather we had. They were all confused. I was thinking to myself, come on look at the height of the sun, its not even January yet. It will be interesting to see what the martins do down south.

Phidave - I admire your perserverance. Your location is within the martin's range, but on the western extremity. Do you have neighbors and/or friends who have had success with martins? Contact your local or state Audubon Society. May get some help there.
See what housing works for their members and maybe duplicate that for what you're using. I'm spoiled. I put up my first six plastic gourds (S & K) in 2018 and had five of them occupied my first effort. Keep trying!!

Mike,
There are several of us up here in Iowa doing well, it's just that the area around Des Moines was pretty sparse until the past few years. With that being said, we are slowly increasing the population in this area, and I hope it will eventually pay off for me soon. I helped another landlord who is a park ranger in this area last year, that has several houses on a public lake, and we had a very sizable fledge. Thanks for your encouragement. unfortunately this is always a learning experience for most of us. I probably would have had much better luck last season, but at the time I had the promising visit, I was also trying to rid my site of a troublesome sparrow. So as luck would have it, I caught the SY male martin. He was uninjured but after that he didn't return. That was a hard lesson learned.
