Geez, is the season over already!! Seems like the Time went by way too fast. Miss the Martin's Singing Already, Seems lonely. All here the past 5 days, all gone today.
I will miss them.

Agree! Didnt get to interact as much as id have liked beginning of the season. It is over here too just get some (2-3) morning visitors who dont hang around long.
Too dang quiet. Wish them the best on their way.

Still have a few passing through, maybe staying a night. I see some in the mornings hanging out. I hear the occasional overhead during the day.
Still seems way too quite.

We had one nesting pair, A 2nd juvenile pair very interested but the 1st pair adult male kept chasing the
Juvenile male till his female left, she didn't return.
He hung around all season. Hope they too will be back 2020. Thanks for asking. Putting up new pole in 2020.
Winds have slightly bent the square aluminium pole,
So a new pole replacement is necessary.

This too was my first year with a nesting pair.. 5 babies and all Fledged.. They fledged on July 7, and it has been a little quite.. Yesterday they all came back for a visit around 8:30 pm.. They were checking out their old home, and singing a lot. Great to see them back again before they head South..

I've had a large number of birds passing through this morning. All sitting on the racks, checking things out, and chattering away. I was kind of surprised to see so many. I wonder how the recent heavy rains and winds have effected their trip south to roosting sites?

I live in Central Virginia and my small colony left July 10th. This was my first year and I have only 4 gourds. Trying to recall the date they arrived, I think it was early May. I didn't realize their time here would be so brief. I sure did enjoy watching them though.

Hi ya all
Just thought I would let you all know iam sitting on my deck watching my martins feeding there chicks and some chicks are only 7 days old so you might get to see some martins coming through from Saskatchewan Canada. I have two houses up some have left from one of them but the other is still full and will be a couple of weeks before they fledge, so keep your houses and gourds up for a while yet!!

Fuzzmeister ... I will be looking for them to do a "fly over" on their way South.. And yes they can spend the night also... Enjoy them as much as you can..

This is my second year with this colony, I just checked my charts and realized some of our chicks are 26 days old, I can't wait to see what 70 fledglings is going to look like. I'm also getting a little sad knowing I only have a few days left sitting out on the patio every morning with my coffee watching the dive bombers going into the houses with bugs in the beak feeding their young and then maybe a couple more weeks before they are gone. This was a good year!

At my first colony, the first couple years before I built up bigger numbers mine would usually fledge and leave all within a couple days. They would take their first flight and then a couple days later they would all be gone and I wouldn't see another martin the rest of the year. Once your colony expands and you have a larger span of arrival dates their departures will be more spread out. Usually by the end of July mine are mostly gone but this year I still have a bunch here.
