Martin Colony History: 2017 Two (and a lone SY male) SY pairs, 5 & 4 eggs. Hatching began on 6/27
2016 Three SY Martins interested in gourds, but never nested.

I also manage 48 gourds in the town where I live through the Songbird Project. Was off to a very slow start this year, but many more came back last week in May, phew!

Had the windows open, as it was so nice out, and what should I hear around suppertime, but the most beautiful song that I've missed all winter, a Purple Martin of course! He flew around the gourds a few times then landed and preened well. Just him, but hoping more show up soon. Preferably after the rain the next few days.

Hi Fawn,
Congrats on the arrival. Beautiful pic too. I also entered your report on the Iowa website. Also, thanks for your managing the songbird project gourds. Thank you.
ImageMite control, heat venting, predator protection and additional feeding during bad weather add up to success.
