Martin Colony History: Martin landlord since 2016. 48 super gourds all with crescent openings and porches.

I have 2 poles apx 25' apart with gourds. I'm building a pole with rods for perches. Where should I locate this pole in relation to the 2 house poles? I am leaning away from putting it in the middle. I'm afraid it might interfere with the fly zone. Thanks for any commits.....

I have built my perch rods/bamboo garden rods across the top of my gourd racks and built into the top of my Martin house. It doesn’t interfere with their flyway. They seem to like being able to fly down to the openings and gourds and check them out before returning back to the top perch rods.

In some situations, depending on the perches they could help the martins. They will be able to navigate through them in a flash and it could slow down a hawk that is attacking. I usually just make sure I have enough room between systems that I can get my mower between them, even if they are lowered.
