I'm looking for some dipper gourds seeds. If anyone has more than they need,
I would like to have some. I can send a SASE if you will give me your address.
My daughter and I would like to try and grow some. I have had great success at
growing the gourds for using as martin housing. I would like to have some of

So you want to grow your own PM gourds? To hang or sell, not that it matters if more housing gets put up.
2014 8 gourds, 3 pairs nested. Ended w/ 24 total
2015 24 gourds, 22 nests. Lotsa birds!
2016 24 gourds and good activity.
2017 32 SREH gourds. Great activity.
2018 40 SREH gourds. Good finish despite big storm damage. No more dangling gourds.
2019 56+ SREH gourds, all on 3/8 rods. Birds did very well.
2020 56 SREH gourds.

Martin Colony History: 2018 1 lone nut and lots of visitors
2019 6 pair -21fledged
2020 18 pair -60 fledged
2021......to be seen.
24 natural gourds on a satellite rack,9 other gourds scattered around
2-12 compartment trio houses
Rarely see a sparrow or starling,but when I do they don’t last long!
Will have a second satellite rack for the 2022 season and phase out the houses,the martins here strongly prefer natural gourds.

Hey Darryl ,this is David in central Louisiana. I’m not sure how long seeds ar good for,but I’ve got a ziplock of Martin gourd seeds . I bought gourds last year from someone in this area. I can’t say if they were that years crop or the year before. But.. if you or someone you know can figure out how long they ar good you’re welcome to em. I thought I was gonna try and grow some ,but figured out I really didn’t feel like jackin with it so I think they are still in a bag I think in the shed if I didn’t chunk em.I have no idea if they are good or not? They are from gourds that we’re 9-10”. So do some research on the longevity of seeds and get back to me. I’m gonna see if they are still there.

What i'm basically interested is finding some of the dipper type gourds.
These have the long necks that grow in all different manner of ways. I
have grown the large birdhouse gourds with great success several times.
If anyone has the dipper type seeds, send me your address and i will send
a SASE for you to send them to me. Thanks

Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas

Gourd seeds are brown or tan on the inside if they are bad. Good goiurd seeds are real white if they are good. Just cut the seed in half and look at the color.

Thanks Emil, I hope he can use them. I would say anyone with 250 has probably grown a few! Thus would have the knowledge about the seeds. I’m gonna go get a few and bring em in the house and check em out ,I’m curious now myself. I may plant a few hills in the spring just for giggles and see what happens. I have a nice sunny knoll out front.
