Well My season is over Now and last birds left two days ago.
I had 651 babies and i lost 5 to hawks, 9 died in houses, i had 11 floater kills, and 16 died in gourds.
I'm happy to say i had 608 fledges, and i hope that many of them land next year in peoples houses that are struggling to build their colonies. I'm 73 and don't have many more years to do this and i love babysitting my birds during the fledging period. I cut my hawk losses this year by staying home and sitting by the houses and throwing colored things in the air to scare off the hawks. My losses went from 20 last year to 5 this year. They will always get some but it is rewarding when your outside and you yell and throw things in the air knowing you can't hit then but you chase them off. I also had two adults die which made me sick to my stomach. I started cleaning washing and painting houses. I have 3 of them covered for the season. I have 68 goards i'm cleaning now. I added another t-14 for next year and i'm having my 2 t-14's that are about 100 yards from the others moved to within 15 feet of the others. I already have the holes dug and are waiting for my amish friends to dig them up and put them in the holes i have already dug. I will have a total of 142 openings next year. I felt like i had my own roost when about 1000 pms were hovering over my house before they left. again I wish you a blessed year and hope God blesses you Like he has me with my colony. I felt like i had two colonies but next year it will all come into one. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow.
