I re-painted the housing as the paint was beginning to show it's age. They have really improved latex acrylic paint, it holds up well. Gone is the plywood hanging discs in place of new 1 1/4" solid cedar discs. I much like these as they show no flex like the doubled up fir plywood did. The wood 4x4 post was also tossed in place of a new aluminum 3x3 post. I have nylon runners around the wood discs and the unit slides up and down the pole with very little friction.
I'm installing another chalet rack this weekend at the closest colony from me about 27 miles away by straight line flight, and I'll post some pictures of that site later on. I've built three of these now, and think I finally have the best set-up figured out in terms of build quality. I'm really hoping the martins find it soon and stick around more than a couple minutes here and there. I really hope I don't have to re-paint this in 7 more years in 2025 and still not have a colony. I don't know if I'm that patient, ha.
