Martin Colony History: 2018 will be my first try. 6 S&K B09s. 29 eggs - 8 fledged
2019 - 12 Troyer Horizontals with tunnels, 6 S&K B09s and 12 B011s all with tunnels. 43 eggs - 36 fledged
2020 - Rack 1 - 6 B011s, Rack 2 - 24 B011s, and Rack 3 - 24 Troyer Horizontals. All gourds have tunnels, porches and crescent/Conley 11 entrances; racks have predator guards. 161 eggs - 88 fledged.
2021 - 54 gourds-214 eggs, 184 hatched, 168 fledged.
2022 - 3 racks of 24 gourds. 363 eggs, 294 hatched, 278 fledged.
2023 - 3 racks of 24 gourds. 321 eggs, 276 hatched, 246 fledged.
2024 - 3 racks of 24 gourds. 330 eggs, 283 hatched, 250 fledged.
2025 - 3 racks of 24 gourds. 347 eggs, 281 hatched, 266 fledged.

Hoped to see hatchlings today but not to be. Now up to 29 eggs. Gourd #1 still has only 1, #2 is up to at least 6 (couldn't count eggs today because the sitting adult wouldn't budge from the clutch), #3 has 5, #4 now has 7, #5 has 5 and #6 has 5 (could count these because the adult was off the clutch but wouldn't leave the gourd).
As I approached the colony today, I observed a single adult leaving while others were circling above. Got strafed a couple of times; adults passing about 3 to 4 feet over my head at 60 mph! They always give a "keech" call - "warning, back-off you two legged predator."
Questions to experienced landlords - these two adult females not leaving the cavity while I nest check. Is that common? Next. Gourd 6 was the first with eggs, 4 on 4/6, 5 on 4/7 and 5 today. Prognosticator tells me hatching begins 4/22. Should I just continue the 5-7 day interval?

Well I see your in Florida I believe, here in South Arkansas I saw the start of the nest building and remodeling today they getting on with their business of reproduction

mjfog, You can continue your nest checks on the interval you stated. Continue afternoon checks and for me personally I stop nest checks on nest with babies about 20 days old to discourage premature fledging.
