Again this year.
As the male pm here is so territorial, no others males are allowed to stay- he chases all of the away!
I don't even have a BB nesting in the BB box that is around 100 feet away from the pm houses.
Hah!
The pair is FINALLY starting nest-building, and that's after the male's arriving on Mar 8. That seems such a long time.
But at least I have a pair here for the season, which is better than I can say for the past ten years, with the exception of last season, when the same male was here.

Don't give up! there are lots of birds coming still. at some point another Martin will put him in his place. 10 years is a long time to wait, rejoice that he is a strong bird, likes your house and that he will probably be back next year!

On pair is better then no pair. I had one pair the last two years and thoroughly enjoyed them.

I did the same, Rocksalt.
None for 8 or 9 years, one pair last year.
I was thinking the reason I only had one pair last year was that there just weren't other martins in the area, but I've been watching the dude this year, and he's an excellent protector- haha!
Protects his gal, guards his house, heck....guards the entire birdhouse area! LOL

My one pair had visitors all season last year and fledged 5. We had a week there where I had martins all over from the one pair. I'm an absentee martin landlord. Only see mine during the weekend at our lake property. We had eight using the house last weekend during the cold snap we had. Looking forward to see how many are still around this weekend.

Tried For 10 years in West Virginia with no luck. Moved to Texas (2016) and got a pair in 2017. Have a pair this year that have been building a nest in two Gourds but appear now to have settled for just one! Hope that we get another pair or two but very glad to have just these. Have read that once you get your first pair you are off and running but understand that the fledglings do not return only successful breeders, so if they don't make the return trip you are back to square one.

Unfortunately my eight taking refuge may have moved on. Last two weekends nothing at my house but some milling around west of me away from the lake. Headed there again later today. Finally some nice warm weather without much wind. Fingers crossed we will have activity.

Congratulations, Lizzie on your pair! When a Landlord has no martin's a single pair is like having a super colony.

Haha! You are RIGHT!
Last year, I was just as happy as could be with that one pair. This year I would be as well.
It appears that I have another pair looking.....not committed yet, I suppose, but they spent the night on one of the houses last night, so I am hopeful.

It's so hard not to get your hopes up, isn't it? Good luck ! I hope they stay and bring a few more with them. :)
