Martin Colony History: The 1972 St. Agnes flood wiped out all the Martins in my area. One day, in 1997-98, 5 or 6 Martins landed on the power wires crossing my back yard. I had no house for them. They kept coming back day after day. We got a martin house a few weeks later & they have been coming back every year since. I average 12-15 pair per year.

Late morning we saw a 2nd ASY Male in the house. Then just about dark we see another beak peeking out. We both used bino's & it looks like a female. All we could see was a little of the throat area. Too dark to get a proper ID. Hope to find out tomorrow.

So my lone male finally has some company. They had a nice day to feed too. We made it to 73, rain early, then some sun & clouds. Friday & Saturday look real good for them.

Here they come....get ready northern landlords. This warm spell & southerly winds will push them north to home.

WOW Bob. I am so sorry you lost your eye. At least you survived it. I have many limitations due to cancer treatments, but life goes on. It makes you appreciate the little things in life.

I'm glad to hear you finally got martins. I just pray most survived this terrible cold during migration.

Best wishes for a great season.

Hi Toy, yesterday was a great day...I believed you had asked me in the past about our peacock we had that roosted on our chimney. He passed away last fall. We were devastated. He lived with us for about 12 years. We bought another one around Christmas, and he is enjoying hanging out with our turkeys and chickens. I still have never figured out how to post pictures on this forum. I enjoy reading your posts about feeding the martins, etc. (My 5th grade class does, also!).

Awwwww sorry to hear you lost your peacock.

To post photos you need to downsize them. I use a regular camera. I upload them into my computer & then use a photo program to resize them down to around 900kb. I think the size is 8 inches by 5.33 inches. Then type your message & click on the "attachments tab" below the message frame. Click add files. Then find your photo & click to add it. There should be a drop down box open giving you options. Then click on "Preview" If your photo loaded it will show up. If not then go back & try to downsize it a little more & try to load it again. I've had a few issues with this new board trying to get them to load. Just keep trying.

See if I can get one to load...Martins gathering nesting materials from sidewalk....2 different sizes posted below...one is 8 inches wide, the other is 7 inches wide.

If you are using a phone to take photos I think there is a post here that explains how. Do a search (top of board, next to New Topic)...."How to post photos" or "Posting Photos".
