Martin Colony History: My father has started the Martin Colony back in 2000. To this day we have had about 40 to 45 pairs of Martins. We use 5 Martin houses and a few gourds, unfortunately the Martins prefer the houses over the gourds, but we still put them up.

Today we have counted a total of 9 Martins, started out at 4 and were just them for 2 weeks. The nice weather we had yesterday blessed us with 5 more Martins. our number count is still down though, we should have about 30 Martins by now. This weekend is going to be cold...supposed to get snow so we prepared more crickets to feed our Martins. Really can't wait till the weather is nothing but sunny. I feel so bad for the Martins. I hope everyone have a blessed weekend!

Glad to hear your martins are starting to return. Looking SO forward to warmer weather. We actually heard and saw a female land on our Trio house yesterday... but hopefully the martins are weathering this cold weather and wind.

Next week looks much more promising. Wishing you a great PM season!

Had two more arrive today, April 7th in central Iowa. I had a single ASY male for 17days, until these two new arrivals. He finally has a few friends. Predicted snow tomorrow, 3 inches. I have my heating ouse and supplement feeding in full swing.
ImageMite control, heat venting, predator protection and additional feeding during bad weather add up to success.
