Have been averaging 40-45 pairs of martins and by now should have around 25-30 martins here .. We have 2 pair here and they have been here 2 weeks with no other martins. I'm sure the weather has a lot to do with that. Hopefully when the weather breaks they will start pouring in.

I'm sure you're getting very anxious. Hopefully the rest will arrive soon for you.

Martin Colony History: My father has started the Martin Colony back in 2000. To this day we have had about 40 to 45 pairs of Martins. We use 5 Martin houses and a few gourds, unfortunately the Martins prefer the houses over the gourds, but we still put them up.

We had some new ones stop by this morning, hoping they come back so we can get a good count.

We have had some late cold fronts down south with strong north winds for the last 2 weeks. Expecting it again tonight. I'm sure your Martins are just temporarily held up until more favorable conditions exist.

If it's any consolation, yesterday afternoon as my Martins were coming in, they had 25-30 additional Martins in tow. The travelers circled the houses and Gourd racks as the sun was setting but decided to head north and fly into the night.

Living on a lake, we have many Martins heading north that may spend a night before leaving before sunrise the next morning.
