Martin Colony History: Established colony in 1990

 In the 28 years we have had a colony, a few have ALWAYS shown up on March 17. I looked for them all day long yesterday, and then around 5:00 (eastern daylight savings time) three flew in and went right into the gourds. I was getting concerned as they have never missed this date. A few flew around the houses in early March, but never saw them again. Scouts? The gourds are up but not totally ready. We always put a thin layer of cedar shavings in the bottom, a little bit of Sevin Dust, and top it off with a layer of pine needles, but we haven't been able to get to that because of this funky weather we are having. It's supposed to get a little warmer today but snow on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning so we want to try to get to them today. It seems as if everything needs to be done in the yard and we haven't been able to get to it, however, I know we are definitely going to put nests in as many gourds as time will allow. I'm just so excited they are here!!!!
