To my dismay my 3 pair that fledged 8 last tear have not shown back at my rack so I’m thinking I’m probably starting over meaning Subbys.MichaelH wrote:Yes I was thinking there should be some more reports down south soon too .

We actually had 10 sub adults come in with our Adult Martins at sunset. Big south wind here all day, wind should be out of the South and close to 20mph in East Texas for 2 more days. I don't know if they will stay long term or continue north in the morning.
We live on a lake and already there are allot of good size insects here for the Martins to feed on. I think allot of Landlords don't report SY's because sometimes it is hard to tell.
But they are smaller than older Martins & they flap their wings allot more to maintain speed & altitude with the ASY Martins. Their mottled colors look different than the true adults.

It's tough to differentiate when they move so fast in the evening, (Iv had a sharpie attack them, they don't wait around). if I had to guess, iv got two male subbies. I base that on the vocalizations the males made while cruising over the site before going to bed, not the distinctive coloring...this weekend will tell maybe I can get a good picture when they are out in the am.
