Today, the first pair of PM's for the season showed up at my colony. This event is my favorite part of being a landlord.
Of course the excitement of getting those first visitors to a new colony is an unbeatable feeling, and it's almost as exciting when they show up in year 10!
Most Enjoyable Event for a landlord?

The thing that stood out most to me was the first time I saw an egg at my firs colony. They had been there for several weeks but I still wasn't convinced they would stay. Once I saw the eggs I knew finally it was looking good.

- Martin Colony History: Started trying to attract purple martins in 2012! It's finally happened in 2017! 5 years!!! ASY male and SY female came May 1st, fledged 5 babies!
When my first pair finally stayed I couldn’t get to excited because I always experienced them leaving and never coming back! So my most enjoyable moment for me was when that first baby shot out of that gourd! I balled like a baby! It was 5 long years of a dream come true! I was so proud of them and me!
Good luck to all!

- Martin Colony History: Got my first SY pair in 2017. Fledged 1, but died due to wing entrapment. 2018- changed all entrances and got one ASY pair. Fledged 3. 2019- Male returned. Disappeared after 12 days. Suspect hawk. No nesting pairs. 2020- 1 pair. Fledged 3. 2021- 12 pairs fledged 43.. 2022- 22pairs. 100 eggs .fledged74 2024–. 42 pairs, fledged186– 2025- 56 pairs, fledged 233
One of the most exciting things for me was seeing a pair finally spending the night. Then, nest building and laying eggs. Probably the most enjoyable part for me was seeing the first baby in the nest. Had a bad ending for me, but still was one of the most enjoyable/satisfying things I have ever experienced.Just hoping and praying that the parents, or one of them, come back this year. I’m getting ready now By changing all my entrances to wing entrapment protection. Hope we all have a great year. Rob
