Last night there were maybe 1000 to 2000 martins still roosting at the airport, but the efforts to scare them away have stopped. Not sure how much longer they will be there, but it can't be long. It is almost two months since the roost was discovered there.

This will be a total of 127 nesting cavities offered for 2020. Hopefully this will help to increase my numbers over 2019 which were 60 active pair that fledged 274 babies.
Awesome news Dick.
Any update on the 2 injured birds that are at the re-habbers?
Would be good if they can be released at the airport before all the birds are gone but if not we may need to drive to another roost to release them.
thanks

Hope to hear an update on the injured birds soon. I am planning on going to the airport this evening to see if there are still martins there.

There were about 500 to a 1,000 martins tonight. They came in a few at a time after sunset and increased until it was almost completely dark. They did not go into the single tree they roosted in until almost complete darkness.

Anita, heard back from the rehabber. One of the birds had to be euthanized, and the other was released at the colony of another rehabber's parents. It apparently did fine.
I will be checking again the first of the week to see if there are any martins still roosting at the airport. It is getting very late to still have any here.

Thanks for the update Dick. Good news on the one bird. At least it might have a chance to migrate south.
thanks
