Berndog,
I did a nest check on the 16th and found eggs in a gourd where I had subbies playing house all season. I too was surprised as the other birds will be long gone. Will be interesting to see if they hatch!?! I'm further north than you so should be close to the same schedule for fledgling/migration given the dates, I think.
I believe a couple others on the forum have late nesters too.

Martin Colony History: The 1972 St. Agnes flood wiped out all the Martins in my area. One day, in 1997-98, 5 or 6 Martins landed on the power wires crossing my back yard. I had no house for them. They kept coming back day after day. We got a martin house a few weeks later & they have been coming back every year since. I average 12-15 pair per year.

I also have 3 nests with eggs waiting to hatch. 2 were re-nests, one was a late nest. If they all hatch & make it they will be here until late August early September. Many of my colony has left too.

Had one nest with 2 new pinkies today. 2 more eggs in that nest.

I also have 3 chicks in 2 nests that have a few weeks to go before fledge yet.

I've had major losses this season...will post about it later on at seasons end. A very wet & cold spring damaged many eggs, torrential rains & heat wave, disease took chicks :(.

It sure has been a messed up season.
