Hi Everybody! So there is an egg the female martin is not incubating. She hasn't laid any more eggs and it's been over a week. This is a new gourd rack that we put it up this year, if that makes a difference.

Manage 7 different colonies in Colby Kansas.

It 2014 I had the same thing happen. ASY Female laid 1 egg and waited 5 or 6 days and then she got on with it and laid a additional 3 eggs. Obviously that egg didn't hatch but the other 3 did. Something I thought of is maybe she isn't getting enough calcium to produce more eggs? Offer some crushed oyster shell.

I see your from Kansas. I'm from Colby where exactly are you from?

Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

Hello Kansans! Is that the only nest you have? New colony? I didn't read your profile maybe the answer is there. It could be a case of her laying in two nests.

I know Paola! I do craft shows and have set up at your Roots Festival. I am trying to decide my August schedule to see if I can make it back there this year. Sure enjoy the music.

I have 33 nests with eggs as of Monday and there is nest building going on in other apartments. One nest has seven eggs.

3rd year with martins. I think it's sub-adult female and that's why it is taking her so long to lay the rest.
