Pm came and went
Need info on this , last year was my first year to have a pair of PM stay and raise a clutch , they settled in last March and stayed to late July , this year I had a male come on March 3 and 3 days later a female showed up , they stayed at the house a week and each night , then they left , what's the deal , south Arkansas

- Martin Colony History: 2016 Informed landlord now Have 2 pair returning from 2015 That is a miracle. Hoping for a very successful year, sparrow population on decline.
First house was plastic with crescent holes Had martins within a few days. Ignorant landlord gradually lost them
Then got Trio House and still lost most of them. Lots of sparrows
At least you laid your eyes on some. I'm still waiting to even see one. None in my close area yet at any sight.
My area full of robins, mockingbirds, starlings & sparrows. Not a Martin in sight.

2016 Started with 2 pair, 1 pair abandoned after HOSP destroyed eggs
1 pair= 6 eggs, 6 fledged
2017 1 pair so far, But they abandoned before nest complete for ?reason? Now Bridless and joined the Wannabes
2018 One pair ASY male SY female 5 eggs, 5 fledged

I'm not sure how cold it's been or how much (if any) snow you got but one thing that sometimes happens in colder climates is
that they will gather at one location so that they can huddle and keep each other warm during cold spells. They do this early
in the season when only a few have returned. If that's the case, they will likely return when the weather warms up.

Thanks for the encouragement, I put up some new housing this year to go along with the old wood 6 hole , got two Sunsets and 4 guords on 3" multipurpose pole , heard a Pm this morning but never saw him , got a good place in open in my 5 acre garden about 50 yards from house , live long ways from town , no other birds mess with the Martin houses , never seen sparrows or starlings here , o yes got good water here to , plenty of bugs, and it's been kind of cool here lately but be back to 80 in couple days , sitting in the sun listening for that distinguished sound of the gliding PM
Yes mine have returned, I guess it's the same ones that were gone for a week and tonight had 3 more spend the night with them , they have abandoned the wood house they used last year and are fond of the new Sunset inns , smart birds
