My founding male has made it back for the 3rd year! He went in the same room as the other years. He was an adult when he founded my site so hes up there in age. At some point this year I'm going to get a decent camera to try and get some good pictures of him.

Martin Colony History: 2016 Informed landlord now Have 2 pair returning from 2015 That is a miracle. Hoping for a very successful year, sparrow population on decline.
First house was plastic with crescent holes Had martins within a few days. Ignorant landlord gradually lost them
Then got Trio House and still lost most of them. Lots of sparrows

So exciting to hear your enthusiasm & love for your founding male. And so happy he survived all his journeys south & back. Congrats. How exciting that he started your colony too. I too am anxiously waiting for my lone male also. Hopefully he will wait for "safer" time to return to Oklahoma, at least weather wise. And seriously hoping he will bring many of his closest friends to start my colony. Only an old Trio house last year but this year a new gourd pole is ready with a vacancy sign out keeps it company. Love these birds.

Yep Trio had 5 enlarged rooms last year. It was put together wrong regarding the internal walls & 2 compartments cannot be opened so I use those for sparrow traps. The pole goes through the center of the house so those middle compartments are a bit smaller. Those were the nest boxes last year & 6 nestlings got a little snug. So this year I am switching the middle as the entrance & the outside boxes as the nests. Hope that won't confuse Mr Founding Father as I read he should come back to the same box as in previous years. That is how I am counting on recognizing him. Hopefully he will make it south & back north safely. I am really counting on him to start my colony. Good luck this season. May your colony grow & fledge many safely.
