Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.

I was out in the barn cleaning up the catfood cans when I heard a comotion outside and wondered "what's wrong with that bird?" Just as quickly, I recognized it as the excited chortling of a Purple Martin. I hollered at Mike, "We have a bird!" I went running outside! Not one, but three. Two girls and a guy. Man they sound good and look beautiful on this cool 50 degree morning. They are a little late. I have been watching for them. Had it been a single female she wouldn't have been very vocal and sneakier. These three are bold and boisterous. Spring has sprung! Enjoy your day.

Gotta go post to the scout report. 8)
Sincerely,
Laverne
